The characteristics about Teochew dishes are that the food is usually steamed. Non-greasy and non oily, it is easy on the palate. Good for me who has had the body ‘detoxed’ on a different scale whose details I will not go into in this blog.
The elderly couple of this stall hardly smile. They managed a snort and grunt when taking my orders. I simply like the Teochew Fishcake. Uneven texture equates handmade quality. This humble piece of fishcake has lumps of fish that you can actually taste. Very chewy. It has shredded pieces of carrots, garnish and chilli. Oooh, the chili was hot. If you get pass the chilli, the fishcakes taste yummy on the whole. It goes very well with porridge/rice. If you are observant, steamed fishcakes sold at other stalls are oblong and texture is far too smooth, a product of mass production in factory, not very tasty though.
Not sure which day the stall closes. It is definitely opened on Thursday, for sure.
(Crouching chilli, hidden chilli seeds, yikes)
