I do not understand the rationale of employers staffing foreign workers as frontline service/ sales assistants. By foreign workers, I refer to those extremely poor in English.
Maybe because such people are poor in English but are strong in something else.
Perhaps they are strong in sign language... ...Well, I don't know.
The stock of a particular brand of Z is currently out of stock. Before leaving the store, I left my name and contact number with the staff, who promised to call me when stock arrives. A few days later, I received a call.
What followed in the telephone conversation was pretty enriching.
Sales assistant: “Hello, Miss, XORTOVIGU?”
I said “Pardon?”
“FWQPR... ....?”
I said “HUH??”
“Stock has arrived. How many do you want?”
I said “oh, that, I see. Can I have Xth number of Z, and how much are you selling Z?”
Silence... ...followed by a string of words, high pitched probably because she was getting excited.
The more excited she was, the more she mumbled.
I repeated myself.
I spoke slowly and clearly.
I sensed her helplessness.
I sensed she sensed my helplessness.
Do you have stock for XXX?

"Okay, madam."
When will stock arrive?
"Okay, madam."
I feel like having a conversation with an Indonesian maid.
Can you help me by passing the phone to your colleague who understands and speaks English?
"Okay, madam."
That was all she could manage "Okay, madam."

I did not want to torture myself anymore.
At her mercy was I.
Trying to understand her pronunciation of English was like reading the news title of “Boy marries dog to ward off tiger attacks (India) = bizarre.

Perhaps they are strong in sign language. Luckily, the beauty of English includes symbols, and, together with sign language, they go like this. Allow me to demonstrate the below to that foreign sales assistant

Told you our telephone conversation was enriching, for her, of course. She would have been introduced to my version of sign language.
