Ramen Play

( Pork cheek )

( Pick your poison...?)

Opened by the folks of Breadtalk, this is one ramen restaurant to join other ramen eateries that sprouted across Singapore.

I ordered Tonkotsu Ramen (pig bone broth).

$9.80 for 2 slices of savoury pork with ramen.

The soupbase is not milky white. I like my ramen bathed in thick pork stock, those that has a milky consistency. Here, the soup does not have full aroma of pork stock. What a disappointment. *Heck*. There was no pepper served either. *Oh my !* The slices of pork were sliced shockingly thin.

If it is flat egg noodle that you are serving, it has better be ultra-thin. To some, it is called paper thin ramen. The ramen served at Ramen Play is flat egg noodles, if you expect the rounder ramen version, it is not served here. The portion of the noodle is miserably small.

My noodle arrived within 10 minutes of order. The waitress carries PDA to take my orders, some high tech gimmicks used here.

I expected my noodles to be springy, Q-Q, but what a disappointment. At some instances, my noodles clumped together, and it is definitely too hard. The spoon was of a cock design. I mean, itself is very heavy and holding it for too long numbs the finger. Any finger fatter than mine would not be able to curl it around the handle. *Double heck*

The fried garlic was nothing robust, nothing to shout about. I scooped at least 10 spoonfuls to add to my ramen, and strangely, I could not taste the garlicky taste at all.
The chives fried in oil was somehow good and went well with the slices of pork. The chili padi was simply too spicy, It numbed my tastebuds and I have to "saved" them with iced water.

Next,

I ordered Toroniku (pork cheek). $3.50 for 3 slices (usual price $6.50).

The slivers of fat within it melted in my mouth. There is a good balance of char-grilled flavour. The pork cheek were sliced generously thick. Pork cheeks are scarce because there is only 200g - 300g of it per pig.

The waitress and waiter are extremely inexperienced, blur at times. I overheard a supervisor chiding a cashier for not using the PDA properly. He was so loud that I could hear him 4 tables away. Nobody smiles after. Payment and "thank you" for your patronage was directed to the table and yep, the waitress did not even look at me when giving me change. Not even a smile was offered by her.

Eating at Ramen Play is no fun at all.

Who are you kidding ?
