29th February (tomorrow) is the day MacDonalds [Clementi branch, CL] cease operations.
Then, the meeting place for me, as a customer.
Now, the meeting place for me, with my customers.
Ice cream cone treats for my customers after a day of Amazing Race in Sentosa last year, it was the place we bonded.
Never in my life was I so attached to a Mac as a school-going student. It was the place to gather after school and after CCAs ended till late. Seniors and Juniors would each grab a happy meal and we would hog the seats as if "father was in charge". Besides RedOut (or was it Ridout?), off Queensway Road, the only Mac in Singapore with ponds, fishes and turtles, Clementi Mac was another hang out place for me as a student after school.
At the stroke of midnight on 29th February 2008, MacDonalds shall cease operations at the Clementi branch. After serving customers for more than 2 decades, the grand dame of Clementi Central shall soon take her leave.
Ahh, Clementi Central, all 3 big icons of { yesteryears ? } have fates as follow:
(1) The fountain is gone.
(2) The tower clock (outside) Bata shop is torn down.
(3) MacDonalds will soon be gone.
Clementi Central, in its mist of undergoing upgrading, is having similar floor tiles like its clone in other parts of Singapore. I thought I was in Toa Payoh New Town the other day, or was it Bedok, Marine Parade or perhaps Ang Mo Kio Central. All look similar now. Without fail, you will find similar shops. There will bound to be a Giordano or Watson's or Begawansolo. Even the floor tiles and street lamps [yes, I look at street lamps] are identical twins.
Think of Holland Village. It has a windmill unique to that area. Nowhere else can you find its identical twin. How nice.
So, what is new?
What is becoming of Clementi Central?
Where is the uniqueness of each New Town Centre?
Change is good ? I reserve my comments on this.
In memory of the 'memories', "Cant fight the moonlight".
