I can do it but I don't see the need to

In conjunction with fundraising, the fun walk/jog on 8th June 2008 will see funds being raised in aid of providing shelter for homeless and unwanted canines in SPCA.
I finally see some meaningful purposes for participation.

“Missy, you are entitled to a discount coupon plus freebies if you sign up for Shape Run July 2008 today.” Shape Run, the annual marathon organized strictly for women, comes in either 5km or 10km.

I am not the least interested in signing up for Shape Run, not even marathons.
You may say that a marathon is a challenge for myself, to build up endurance, to stretch myself, whatever knot. To me, of course I am in a position to know myself best. Which sane person will run a marathon as a physical challenge? You train hard beforehand and run well prepared, isn't it? So, in this case, where is the challenge?
Think again, I do not take part in marathons for the sake of collapsing. I would not want to create jobs for paramedics. I don't see marathons as a mental challenge, unless, of course, the marathon is ran in aid of fundraising or for a purpose.

Tomorrow, I am going to cycle. This time, hopefully 9km, if not, 12km?
I am going to cycle for fun and leisure. Mention cycling marathon to me and it will put me off.
