Make a come back, will you ?

The word stared back at me today in the newspapers.
In bold print it read: Achilles tendon.
I felt a shiver down my spine immediately. I froze in my tracks.

Bai Kar

I was limping.
I remembered myself being injured a few months back at the very spot: Archilles tendon.
That injury caused me to withdraw all exercises and take complete rest for at least one month.
It is impossible to exercise, not even run if you are unfortunately “blessed” with injury to the Achilles tendon.

Inflammation of the Achilles tendon is what my GP diagnosed.
The tendon was swollen, painful and I was limping my way around. I had to wear flats when I worked and I desperately wished to be on the wheelchair.

I can feel Liu Xiang’s pain, the athlete from China who was injured in his Archilles tendon.

He pulled out of the Olympic 110m hurdles race due to injury. I am prepared to brush aside the facts that thousands of dollars were spent to groom this talent from China. Not as if he was caught with steroids or has committed a crime. And he was under intense pressure to repeat his glorified victory in Athens back in 2004.

The people from China reacted with anger and sadness, to the point of calling him “eunuch”, “a pig” is nothing but silly and childish tantrums to me.

Then again, nothing matters more than one’s health.
What about sympathy?
He is only a human, definitely not a medal-generating robot.

In Chinese proverbs:
留得青山在,不怕没柴烧
“Retain the green forest and you will not fear not having enough wood to burn.”
You can always make a comeback next time.
